All About Eve

Hi, I’m Eve Messenger, avid reader of YA novels. I write them too.

I’m half Japanese but look totally white. Or maybe a better way to phrase that is that I am culturally half-Japanese because my first-generation Japanese mother and white American father adopted me as a newborn.  I speak Japanese, sing Japanese songs, eat Japanese food, and have happy memories of living in Japan.

As a child, I lived in Japan, Taiwan, Virginia, and California. Growing up in different cultures taught me at an early age to have an open mind.

Books and music keep me sane (mostly). Libraries and nature are my sanctuary.

I live in the California Mojave Desert (also called the High Desert) with my husband and youngest daughter. The High Desert might look like just a bunch of rocks, sand, and Joshua Trees, but there is a lot of magic here.

Writers I admire include (but are not limited to) Sabaa Tahir, Victoria Schwab, A.S. King, Naomi Novik, Shannon Hale, and Maggie Stiefvater. I met Victoria Schwab twice at book signings and was a total nervous fan girl both times. In one of my books, Victoria wrote: “I can’t wait to read what you have in store.” Someday, Victoria. Someday.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English, and I’ve published one poem.

My day job is piano teacher. I used to be in bands and stuff. I’m also an ASCAP songwriter.

Now for some numbers: one husband, two kids, three step-kids, two cats, one dog, and four goats. . . well, sort of four goats. They’re my neighbor’s, but I am their goat godmother.

Happy reading!

XOXO

Eve Messenger

  20. Hi, Eve, I’ve been following you for a while and I wonder if you’d be interested in doing a blog swap. You visit my blog and talk about your books, I visit your blog to talk about my books. If you’re up for it, I’d love to chat more.

  21. Hi Eve,

Hope it’s okay contacting you on the blog here. I added you on Twitter too. I’ve been enjoying following you on WordPress – your recommended reads are great.

I just wanted to ask if you’d be interested in reviewing my Young Adult, Urban Fantasy novel, Descendants. It’s the first one in The Arete Series. I’m self-publishing it next month on the 12th April. I’d be happy to send you a link to the ARC e-book (e-pub, mobi and pdf).

It’s inspired by Greek mythology, but instead of being about the descendants of gods, it’s about those cursed by the gods. Think Fallen meets Percy Jackson. I’ve put a link to the Amazon pre-order page and Goodreads so you can read the synopsis, as well as the cover image below.

Thanks for considering and hope to hear from you soon.

    All the best,

    Rae
