If you like a good story

This.
Book.
If someone had told me a week ago I would even pick up a book called Ice Massacre I would have laughed. Hard. But I am here now to say I loved this book and that its only weakness was the title.
The plot line, on the other hand, got my attention. In this modern day YA fantasy, the people of the island of Eriana Kwai are in trouble. Merpeople have waged war on them and are starving them out. Warrior mermaids–who morph into (seriously) terrifying sea demons–send fish away from the island and brutally murder fishermen. Like sirens, the mermaids can also cast hypnotic spells over men. So what do the people of Eriana Kwai do? They send a band of trained, 18-year-old women out to battle at sea.
Ice Massacre kept me on the edge of my seat. The writing is strong, the characters believable, the mermaids so, so scary. Worthy of mentioning is that the book also features diverse characters. A good plot twist also lends depth to the story; as a young girl, the main character Meela befriends an injured mermaid. When she grows up, Meela opts to defend her people and battle the mermaids but must keep her cross-species friendship a secret.
This might be one of those books that hit me at a time when I was exactly in the right mood for it. Who knows? Bottom line: it was a blast to read. 5/5 stars.

Oh my gosh, then yes you must to read it. Honestly, I kept expecting the story to disappoint me but it never did. I’m dying to hear what you think of it so I can figure out if I’m being delusional over how good this book seemed.

I believe I saw this in passing on Goodreads and was kind of eh about it, somewhat torn about adding it to my humungous TBR pile/shelf.

I can see from your review you really enjoyed this one.
Tbh, I never would have say it was sth for me by judging it’s cover or the title.
That’s why I love to read other ppl’s reviews, you never know when there’s a good book behind the not so appealing artwork.
And tbh, I have never heard about this book before, so thanks for spotting it. 🙂

Oh gosh this sounds frickin’ phenomenal!! I really wanna read this now! Shame about the title- but that won’t put me off!! I wanna read a book about mermaid-monster thingys- it sounds like such a cool concept!

Warrior mermaids!! Two words I never thought I would find next to each other! It sounds a blast, Eve and I love your exuberance for this book. I definitely have to take a closer look. I was just wondering what you meant in one of your comments about ‘obligatory’ reads for netgalley? I do review for them and have never heard of having to review a book?

I’m not one to choose books based on covers, but your title “Don’t Judge this Book by its Title” didn’t even phase me as I looked at the picture on the cover. The picture on the cover intrigued me enough to make me want to read the book. 🙂
Of course, your review clinched it for me. I definitely added this to my TBR list. 😉

At first I liked the cover too–I thought it was intriguing–then I started wondering if the mermaid was having her time of the month.
