An earworm is a snippet of a song WISH I COULD TURN BACK TIME. . . that gets stuck in your head and relentlessly refuses to leave. TO THE GOOD OLD DA-AYS It drifts off to sleep with you each night and greets you every morning even before you’re fully awake. WHEN OUR MOMMA SANG US TO SLEEP
Day after day, the earworm camps out in your mind, lays out a picnic, and loops endlessly. AND NOW WE’RE STRESSED OUT.
Sometimes the earworm may bounce to a different–also very catchy—part of the same song.
MY NAME IS BLURRY-FACE AND I CARE WHAT YOU THINK.
MY NAME IS BLURRY-FACE AND I CARE WHAT YOU THINK
How do you get rid of an earworm? WISH I COULD TURN BACK TIME. . .
Here’s some conventional wisdom:
- Ignore it. TO THE GOOLD OLD DAYS.. .
- Watch the music video.
- Sing it with people, friends, strangers, anyone who will join you.
- Replace it WHEN OUR MOMMA SANG US TO SLEEP with another song.
- Read a book. Or several.
- Do anagrams. AND NOW WE’RE STRESSED OUT
- Blog about it and ask others for help. WISH I COULD TURN BACK TIME. . .
HELP! If you’ve ever had a song stuck in your head, how did you finally get rid of it?
Epic movie themes will knock anything annoying out of my head. I usually go for Indiana Jones or Back to the Future…that way if I have something stuck, at least it’s good!

Or there’s the Star Wars song

How did I forget to mention the Imperial March? (/facepalm) That’ll send any silly little pop tune running for the hills.

That could work. . . I totally forget how the Back to the Future Theme goes. Going to listen to it right now.

Put on a mad totally different song – very LOUD! Well, it might work…just creep away as the neighbours come and knock at your door!

Nice! My husband just gave me new speakers for Christmas. While eating dessert (per Livonne’s suggestion) I’ll blast the Back to the Future theme (per Elena’s suggestion). Yes, it’s going to be a good day. 😀

If it’s Twenty One Pilots, then don’t fight it! I love them. Happy to see them getting more popular. I just saw they were #1 on iTunes which is crazy! Their album is really good. If you haven’t already checked it out, I recommend the whole thing but specifically “Polarize” “Heavydirtysoul” and “Tear In My Heart”. Lately I have “Cake by the Ocean” by DNCE stuck in my head xD

To be honest, before “Stressed Out” I didn’t really know this band either.

Thanks for the recommendations. I’m always looking for good new music. Listening to Polarize right now. 🙂

Haha, yes, I totally get that. However, seven straight days of this particular song have gotten a bit exhausting.

Eat desserts… That should do it. Stressed is just desserts spelled backwards. Life’s short.. eat dessert first.

Great suggestion! I am absolutely going to try that right now.

“Surrender! Resistance is futile.” I think that is a movie line.
Once my sister Gwen and I tormented our younger brother Will while stuck in my Mom’s small house in the country over Christmas. We couldn’t stop singing Rollin With My Homies. Well, just that one line, which made it worse. We’d laugh hysterically each time, and all he wanted to do was just get the bleep out of there. But there was no where to go except the woods. Bwahahahaha!

I can’t get a song out of my head once it sets up camp. I just let it die a slow death on its own.
